How to Become a Tapestry Resource Parent
Tapestry maintains high standards for its resource parents and provides a high level of support in return, resulting in impactful care for children along with a professional and mutually respectful relationship between Tapestry Family Services and the amazing community members who have chosen to open their homes and hearts to the children of our community most in need. We offer a team approach to support resource parents in the care and nurturing of the children. Resource parents are truly respected and engaged members of our treatment team.
At Tapestry we strive to compensate resource parents at a rate that reflects the significance and challenges of this important work. (See our rate page.)
Other supports include:
- Readily available consultation and assistance with questions and behavior problems;
- Regular contact with a social worker;
- 72 hours/month respite care;
- Therapeutic services;
- Mileage reimbursement;
- In-home support and guidance for Intensive Treatment for foster children and resource families.
- After hours and weekend on call support.
We’re looking for people with the desire and ability to be a professional caregiver for children with emotional challenges.
Tapestry resource parents can be single or married, with or without children, employed, male or female, and can rent or own homes.
If you’d like to help a Tapestry foster child but don’t think you can be a full-time resource parent, you can also assist by offering respite care. Respite providers give resource families breaks for brief periods, anything from overnight to several days. Compensation is provided to respite caregivers.
The certification process involves the completion of an application and other forms, followed by a background clearance and home/family assessment. Our foster care department provides support and assistance throughout the entire process.
Tapestry Family Services provides on-going quarterly training for our approved resource families to maintain their professional development while also acquiring necessary training hours for annual re-certification. These training’s are private and not open to the public.
